During the first six months of 2010, Apple was the company that registered the highest number of vulnerabilities within their software . This was stated by Secunia is known companies in the computer security landscape, which recently published an interesting realized vulnerabilities identified during the first half of the year.
In agreement with those reported in the Secunia report, Apple has managed to displace Oracle, which held the top spot since 2006, but Microsoft is a close third in maintaining its steady trend. More generally, it is interesting to note that the 10 companies mentioned in this classification have total registered only 38% of security holes identified in the first six months of the year.
classified by Secunia does not take into account the severity of the vulnerability therefore does not necessarily mean that the software developed by Apple are the ones less secure. In the case of Apple in particular many identified security flaws do not affect the Mac OS X, but other applications like Safari, QuickTime and iTunes.
The data reported in the Secunia report, however, reveal that it is no longer the operating system but the software developed by third parties to be targeted to launch attacks.
Secunia also points out that the updating of software developed by third parties is definitely more difficult than is the case with operating systems such as Windows or Mac OS X that are equipped with an automatic update system, only some applications they are equipped with a feature similar.
